6 Ways to Promote Radiant Skin

Use “clean” and natural skin products – seek out products (hair care, body care, sunscreens, etc.) that contain natural ingredients and avoid products that contain petroleum, mineral oil, parabens, hydrogenated oils, perfumes, dyes, etc. Some of my favorite brands include Derma E, Dr. Hauschka, and Burt’s Bees.

Practice dry skin brushing – use a natural, bristle brush on your whole body (brush towards your heart) at least once daily to help shed dead skin cells, improve skin texture and cell renewal, increase circulation to skin, encourage your body’s discharge of metabolic wastes, aid in lymphatic drainage, stimulate nerve endings, and help open clogged pores.

Sauna – deep sweating promotes toxin removal, clears bacteria out of surface layers of the skin and from the sweat ducts, and improves circulation from dilating the blood vessels.

Exercise – promotes cleansing by bringing blood flow and sweat to the skin, moving lymph, bringing blood flow to liver, helps digestion and elimination, enhances the movement of nutrients to the skin and carries toxins away.

Hydrate – drink about ½ your body weight in ounces of water daily; add 8 oz for every hour of exercise. Replace with electrolytes when necessary with coconut water or EmergenC. Hydration supports the removal of toxins and carries nutrients to cells, provides skin resiliency, and prevents collagen breakdown.

Reduce your stress load – stress is often a trigger for many skin conditions so practice daily stress reduction techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or yoga to manage your stress levels.
